JACK Kerr says it is never too late to start bowling!

The spritley 96-year-old only took up the sport when he retired, and has been enjoying it ever since.

Jack plays for Cuningham in the Ballymena and District Churches League.

“I was at a funeral,” recalled Jack, who comes from Ballynafie, outside Portglenone. “I met John Marks who said he had heard I had retired, and he suggested I take up bowling.”

Jack said he had never bowled in his lifetime, but decided to accept the challenge and has never looked back.

He bowled for a while with Cullybackey before joining up with Cuningham where he remains today.

“I’m an ordinary enough bowler but really enjoy playing,” outlined the former lorry driver.

“The social side of bowling is also important and very enjoyable too.”

Jack said he has met many friends through the sport - and urges other, no matter their age - to give it a go.

“You are never too old to start,” he told Guardian Sport.

Jack is sometimes out up to three times a week involved in his recreational hobby!
