THE Veteran Support Group Ballymena have secured £10,000 of National Lottery funding to deliver a comprehensive programme over the next 12 months.
The funding will covering social activities; a monthly breakfast club; educational and health initiatives helping to reduce loneliness and social isolation of former service personnel in the Ballymena area.
The group was formed in January 2023 as an organising and coordinating body for veteran support services within Ballymena. They have a very active 12 person committee and have been delivering activities helping to build capacity within its membership and improving good relations across the community of Ballymena.
Cllr Lawrie Philpott Chairperson commented on the recent National Lottery award: “This investment will greatly assist us in delivering activities that will help reduce loneliness within our veteran community here in Ballymena.
“The veteran community has traditionally been a very hard to reach community and we will now be able to introduce events and activities that will encourage social interaction and create opportunities that will improve the mental health and well being of participants”.
