BALLYMENA RFC U18s have secured their place in Saturday’s (Februaruy 22) Ulster League Final against Armagh at Meadowbank Arena, in Magherafelt.

The young Ballymena squad earned their spot in the League play-offs after an impressive season in the North Ulster Regional League.

They finished as runners-up, after winning all but one of their matches.

Their strong performance granted them entry into the League playoffs against the winners of other Ulster Regional Leagues.

In the first round of the play-offs, Ballymena faced tournament favourites Malone in an away match, securing a decisive 18-7 victory.

The semi-final saw them overcome Strabane at home with a commanding 36-0 win, securing their place in the final.

Features 27 teams

The Ulster League competition features 27 teams from across the Province, making Ballymena’s achievement a significant one.

Their final opponents, Armagh, topped their own League and will pose a tough challenge.

The two sides have yet to meet this season, making the final a highly anticipated encounter.

Ready for the Challenge

Ballymena U-18 captain James Lynn expressed confidence ahead of the match, reflecting on the team’s journey so far.

“We have trained hard all year, and results have started to come for us. During the league, we travelled to Coleraine, Ballyclare, Letterkenny, Ballymoney, and Limavady.” outlined Lynn.

“We know Armagh will be a tough test in the final, but we will be ready. It has been a privilege to captain this team over the season.”

Captain Lynnn has been playing youth rugby at Ballymena for eight years and has really enjoyed it.

“This season has been special, and we are all looking forward to this Saturday’s final,” said.

Praised the team

Coach Nick Read also praises the team’s effort and determination.

“I’m delighted for them; they are a formidable unit and have worked hard in training to get to the final,” he said.

“These sorts of opportunities are few and far between - the chance to test yourself against the best in Ulster. We will enjoy the whole final experience, and I am sure that the team will do the club and themselves proud.”

The final kicks off at 11am. at Meadowbank Arena.

Ballymena will be aiming to cap off their remarkable season with the League title.

The team would like to thank Bob and Berts for their generous sponsorship and hosting them for a pre final breakfast last week.
