IT’S been a long time since actual sticks lined the sides of the locally nicknamed ‘stick bridge’ across the River Braid.
The bridge, which connects the Leighinmohr area to Harryville via Railway Street has been an important short-cut for generations of local people.
In days gone by, the sides of the bridge were closed in with rows of stakes wired together to form a protective fence.
Those are long gone and in recent times, the gaps between bridge posts have been lined with mesh.
As a result of wear and tear that mesh had fallen into disrepair, a problem which was taken up by Independent Cllr. Rodney Quigley.
“With the help of Council building control I was able to tack down the actual owners and they have acted swiftly to make the bridge safe for pedestrians again.
“I’d like to thank them for their prompt movement on this issue,” he said.
Recently, in the same area, Cllr. Quigley mounted a hedge trimming and clean up operation on local paths.
“These paths and the bridge itself are well used by school children and I felt it was importanty to get these issues resolved.”
