Rape accused is remanded

A FILIPINO man was remanded into custody at Coleraine Magistrate's Court today.

Crisos Sonet (38), with an address at Clarence Street, appeared in the dock wearing a grey tracksuit, charged with the offence of rape of a teenage girl in Ballymena.

The offence is alleged to have occurred on May 24, this year.

The defendant confirmed his date of birth to the court and indicated that he understood the charge against him. An interpreter was not needed

A police officer said they believed they could connect the defendant to the charge.

No application for bail was made.

The case was adjourned to July 24 at Ballymena Magistrate's Court.
