A BALLYMENA woman is hoping to raise £8,500 to help with the purchase of a new powered wheelchair for her four year old nephew, Isaac.
Amy Stewart's nephew Isaac, who is a Primary 1 pupil at Moorfields Primary School, was born prematurely and was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy.
Due to this condition, Isaac is unable to sit, stand, or walk.
Isaac previously used a 'Wizzybug' wheelchair which was his first powered wheelchair and this afforded him independence by allowing him to walk, run and be adventurous like his friends.
However, Isaac has now outgrown his Wizzybug and is need of a new wheelchair.
Amy explained: "Unfortunately the only wheelchair that is available to Isaac on the NHS is a non powered one.
"He has minimal control of his hands which makes a non powered chair a very restrictive option for him.
"Having this new wheelchair, called 'Tiny Trax' will give him the same independence that other children his age have.
"He loves to play football, go on adventures with his mum Laura and sister Hollie and thinks he’s a firefighter. He also has a mischievous streak and likes to get into everything!
"He has loved having the Wizzybug but has unfortunately out grown it.
"Laura is a single mother and wants to be able to provide Isaac with all the same things as other children his age.
"We would be so grateful for any help offered to help Isaac get back up and running in his new wheelchair."
