CLOUGH Glasgow Rangers Supporters Club will celebrate its 50th Anniversary next year!

And already plans are in motion to organise a number of events to mark the major milestone.

This Friday night (September 29) they begin with a night at the club, with members, past members, families and friends all invited (7.30pm).

Food will be served and a 70’s Nite - the decade the Supporters Club was formed - will follow.

A number of other events are currently being planned to celebrate GGRSC’s half century in existence.

* GCRSC held its first meeting on September 25, 1974.

Derek Shaw, James Gregg and Tommy Kerr suggested it would be sensible to set up such a supporters club in the village!

Venue for the meeting was the Lug-O-The-Tub public house which was owned by Robert and Margaret Logan.

The first meeting attracted a turnout of NINE.

Next they moved base to Clough Orange Hall.

A short time later they wrote to Glasgow Rangers, asking to be officially affiliated - a request which was duly granted.

The Club’s ambition was to buy their own ground and build an actual Supporters Club of their own.

Ten years later they did just that - and now boast their current HQ in Clough.

It was first opened on Easter Monday, 1984, - and on June 29 the following year it was officially opened by Rangers players John McDonald and Bobby Russell.

Clough GRSC went on from strength to strength.

Rangers players, including Jim Baxter, Andy Gorman and Mark Heatly, guested at some of their dinners and fund raisers.

Current Chairman, Rodney Crawford, said everyone is looking forward to next September’s 50th Anniversary evening.
