SCHOOL SPORTING PERFORMANCE

Ballymena Academy

FLANKER Adam Lamont collected the award at last week’s Council Sports Awards evening in Ballymena.

The 16-year-old was part of the Medallion Shield winning side - the first such victory in 48 years for Ballymena Academy.

The talented young Shield squad won the Danske Bank Ulster Schools' Medallion competition.

They beat Campbell College 10-8 in the final at Kingspan Stadium.

During the season Academy also beat leading Leinster schools, including Clongowes Wood and Belvedere College

And 13 members of the squad have been selected to take part in the Ulster Rugby Age Grade Development Programme.

Speaking with Awards Evening compere Sarah Travers Adam said it had been a big buzz for the school and his team to have taken the coveted title.
