Following ongoing safety risks and recent incident on the A26 Woodgreen course it has been decided by a race committee meeting last week that Ballymena Road Club will be suspending the use of Woodgreen for the foreseeable future for club TTs.

This weeks 25 mile TT will be held on the Caddy Race circuit with a 7pm start sign on from 6pm at Ballee Park and Ride.

Meanwhile, BRC members were out in force last Monday night at the Mid and East Antrim Bike Week event at Ballymena Showgrounds.

The event involved activities set up by Sustrans and Disability Sport NI, and also gave the public an opportunity to ride Disability Bikes and tandems.

There was also a family cycle set up around the Showgrounds Complex.

It also gave BRC an opportunity to launch their 'Sofa to Saddle' Programme.

This 6 week programme aims to attract beginners into the sport, the aim being for participants to complete a 25km cycle by the final week. Over 30 participants have signed up already!

The event was a roaring success, many thanks to Katrina McCaughan, Lesley McLaughlin, Colin Rodden and Susan Lynn from MEA Council for their hard work in organising the event.

Also many thanks to all BRC members who helped with the event.

Thanks for supporting your club!

* Storm Hector didn’t stop 31 riders from signing last Wednesday on to compete over the 40 mile circuit for the Star Trophy.

The riders battled through rain and wind around the north coast, including a gruelling head wind on the inward leg from the crest of Glenariff climb into Ballymena.

The Star Trophy is a handicap race and so the bunch was split into 3 groups set of at intervals of 5 minutes and 4 minutes to scratch.

As expected the Glenariff climb just at the Laragh Lodge turn off was where the 3 groups merged and continual jumps and break away attempts were repeated along the remaining 13 mile race to the finish.

Edward Kearney of Pheonix CC came in first over the line closely followed by Shane Smith (McNulty's). First BRC rider Luke McMullan (4th overall) was awarded the Star Trophy.

Thank you everyone for a great nights racing. Thank you to all to helped with sign on, marshalling and finish line.
