There were as many tears in the eyes of audience members as there were stars in the eyes of competitors in a unique fund-raising event held in Ballymena Services Club recently.
Thankfully, the tears were prompted by laughter at the hilarious antics ‘on stage’ during the The Friends of The Somme Association’s ‘Stars In Their Eyes’ event.
Eight acts competed for the £100 prize money.
The night started off with a Tom Jones Tribute (Kenny Allen) followed by the “Spice Girls” featuring five local ‘Wannabes’ - Sylvia Allen, Rhonda Allen, Isabel Selwood, Maureen Watters and Karen Shannen.
Kenny Allen and Thomasina Adair were Sonny and Cher with ‘I’ve Got You Babe’ and this was a perfect warm up for Neil Diamond’s ‘Hello’ from Bobby Allen.
A Katy Perry “Roar” was belted out by Marlene before the break, during which a raffle was held in aid of The Friend of The Somme Association Funds’
After the interval the big guns came out with Janine and Des as Elton John and Kiki Dee with the penultimate act being a wee Blues number by Legend.
Then came the star of the Show. Bobby Allen dressed as Frankenfurter from the Rocky Horror Picture Show, complete with Basque and Suspenders.
Needless to say, Bobby won the night with maximum points for Presentation, Song rendition and Audience Participation.
On receiving his prize of £100 Bobby then donated the Prize Money to the Autism Charity of NI.
A great night was had by all and all funds raised will be used by The Friends of The Somme Association to further the memory of The Battle of the Somme.
