SHE may be just 13-years-old but Katie Stevenson from Ballymena is already a World Irish dancing champion.
Katie won the prestigious title at the CRDM, Cumann Rince Dea Mheasaopen, World Championships in Killarney last week.
She beat off tough competition from over 40 dancers in the age 13 category of the championships which attracts participants from all over the world including America.
Katie's mum Valerie explained that her daughter first became interested in Irish dancing at the age of 8 and she joined Royal Tara Dance Academy three years ago.
Valerie said: “Katie has been third in the competition before but this is her first World Champion win and we are so proud and delighted for her. She competed in quite a big age group so its a great achievement.
“She has been interested in Irish dancing since she was eight years old and she is keen to continue competing.”
CRDM holds competitions throughout the year, these range in classifications from Worlds, All Ireland, regional Championships to local Feiseanna.
