The play equipment for older children in the People’s Park is to remain closed over the Easter school holidays.

The news comes as parents and local residents have become increasingly anxious about the length of this current closure, as this section of the park has now been closed for many months.

In February a Council spokesperson told the Guardian that: “The play park is hugely popular and we need to ensure it’s safe and fit for purpose.

“Council is committed to working to secure funding to redevelop the play area and hopes it will be back up and running soon.”

It is now evident that the park will not be open in the immediate future, and Council have this week admitted that the park will remain closed until the summer.

However, Council have now revealed that all the play equipment for older children is to be replaced.

A spokesperson recently said: “We plan to install new multi-play equipment for older children within the People’s Park this summer and will keep our residents updated as this progresses.

“We appreciate the patience of the community while this work is carried out.”

The park is due to celebrate it’s 150th anniversary next year, with Council making plans to mark the occasion.

They said: “We are also working on plans for significant investment in the People’s Park ahead of August 2020.”
