CULLYBACKEY has much to thank its volunteers for and the Cullybackey Community Partnership (CCP) were delighted to be able to bring many of them together to celebrate their achievements over the past year.

This took place on Saturday, March 23 at the Methodist Church Hall with a very special award made to Desmond Stewart for his volunteering service.

The Methodist Church Hall was filled to capacity where Ruth Orr, Chair of CCP, welcomed everyone and thanked them for their help and support.

Ruth commented: “We are proud of what our village has achieved and we have all of you to thank for this success. Everyone has a part to play.

“You are here this evening to celebrate this success and we hope that you will continue to provide your support for the village improvements, particularly our participation in Ulster In Bloom and Britain In Bloom”.

Ruth went on to mention a very special volunteer who had been active in volunteering for almost30 years. Desmond Stewart had been present at the inaugural meeting of the Cullybackey Environmental Improvement Association and since then had been Chair of the association as well as participating in many community events.

His most important role had been his involvement with the environmental work including creating flower beds, weeding and watering the hanging baskets throughout the village.

He has now decided to retire and will be a big loss to the environmental team.

Desmond was presented with a gift to mark his long and faithful service and his wife Stella received a small gift in acknowledgement of her tolerance of the time Desmond had spent working for the community.

Those attending the celebratory event were treated to an excellent meal after which they participated in a very enjoyable table quiz.

Thanks goes to Volunteer Now who were involved in providing some support for the event. Cullybackey Community Partnership are very grateful for this support.

If you are interested in learning more about the partnership and the wide range of activities on offer, or helping in any way, we would be delighted to speak to you.

Alternatively call into the Maine Business Centre in the middle of the village.
