AN adventurous group of employees from Stephens Catering Equipment reached great heights last month as they abseiled their way to an amazing £2,500 for Northern Ireland Chest, Heart and Stroke charity.
The 12 strong team took part in the charity abseil at the Europa Hotel on Sunday, February 24, and what made this even more of a challenge for the team is that most of them are afraid of heights!
Just before the event, Claire Adair explained: “This is the first abseil for most of us and a real challenge.
“I wanted to arrange a charity event that will really make us face our fears.
“Most of us taking part have a fear of heights so it will be a huge challenge. Personally, I am petrified!
“We are all from Ballymena or surrounding areas.
“Stephens Catering Equipment is based in Broughshane with offices in Dublin, Donegal and Belfast
“My family and friends must think I have gone mad knowing my fear of heights.
“I wanted to arrange a challenge to really make people fight their fears.
“I know when we have completed the abseil we will have a huge sense of achievement.”
And the team really did rise to the challenge, scaling down the tall hotel building and helping to raise thousands for this importanat charity.
Claire added: "“My place of work, Stephens Catering Equipment, worked closely with NICHS last year in increasing employees’ health and well-being and many changes have been made in our workplace and our home lives.
“Many of us have family or friends that have been affected with illnesses relating to Chest Heart or Stroke and by raising funds for the charity they can continue their amazing work in Northern Ireland.
“Personally, my parents both passed away in 2012 with chest related issues so I know the importance of the charities work. We have also recently ran a raffle in aid of NICHS raising £1,059 with fabulous prizes donated from local businesses.
“Stephens Catering Equipment are also in the process of getting a Defibrillator which will be located in our building and available for use within the community during office hours.
