A GALWAY sculptor recently visited local school children from Dunclug College and St Patrick’s College.

Donnacha Cahill from Athenry Co.Galway is a renowned sculptor whose work can be seen all over Ireland and indeed further afield

Donnacha has completed work on behalf of Methodist church Ballymena and is currently working on a project which will see a sculpture in position at the Ballymena North Business and Recreation Centre.

Donnacha has been working with local students to formulate ideas about the nature of the sculpture.

He attended a senior citizens luncheon club organised by North Ballymena Community Cluster where the group engaged and gave some great ideas.

The youth of Waveney Youth Centre Doury Road were very creative with their ideas.

Ballymena North Partnership are grateful to the National Lottery through the Arts Council of Northern Ireland small grants programme for the funding for the project.

Donnacha stated “I enjoy working in Ballymena I have been welcomed by all and I have enjoyed working with all in the workshops. I feel it is important to research the area and character of the area but rely on stories, observations and ideas from the community to inspire a design that suits the proposed area.”

“I hope to have the sculpture ready for installation by mid April 2019.”
