Focus on digital at business breakfast

BUSINESSES from across the Ballymena area came together for a BID for Business breakfast to hear how both video and digital marketing can add real value to a business.

Organised by Ballymena Business Improvement District (BID) and the Ballymena Area Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the breakfast event, held at the Adair Arms Hotel, shone a light on those aspects of marketing which can make a real difference to any business, small or large.

TACTICS

It was an excellent opportunity to hear the ‘Five Digital Tactics for Right Now’ from Daniel McCarry from Counter Digital who focused on identifying digital marketing signposts, key personas, Facebook ad testing, campaigns and proactive organic social media on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for businesses.

Stephen Reid, owner of Grafters Media, who also is the inspiration behind the Ballymena BID’s adverts and Mid and East Antrim Adventures local tourism marketing campaign, discussed how the power of emotion and humour in video, along with story, is so very important and how attracting the customer has changed with the introduction of digital technology.

Stephen explained: “There needs to be a loyalty, a connection to a business or locality. An emotional link that produces a bond.

“Where people start to see local businesses as part of their community and the owners as part of their network of relationships, that’s where storytelling, which has the potential to create or grow markets is essential. Video is just part of that.”

Speaking about the BID for Business Breakfast, BID Manager, Alison Moore said: “I’d like to thank both Daniel [McCarry] of Counter Digital and Stephen [Reid] of Grafters Media for giving up their time for the businesses of Ballymena.

“In today’s society it is so very important that retailers, traders and the wider business community utilise every tool there is available to them to help their business.

“We were certainly given good insight into the use of video, as well as some key digital tactics today, which is food for thought and will undoubtedly make us look at things that little bit differently.”

Robin Cherry MBE, President of the Ballymena area Chamber who welcomed all of the guests to the event commented: “Traders and businesses know all too well the challenging times that we work in. So, it is great to engage and understand how these aspects of marketing can assist each and every one of us. There were many ‘take aways’ for all of us.”
