CULLYBACKEY will be literally swimming in Shloer this Christmas after 12,000 bottles of the sparkling juice were sold in one week at the local Spar!

The Eurospar on Main Street sold the unbelieveable amount during a week of special offers.

The Christmas favourite is usually sold for £2.20 in the Spar however between November 11-18 the price was reduced to 89p and residents in Cullybackey made sure to stock up.

Manager Jonathan Mitchell said merry folk were bagging themselves two and three crates each to prepare for the festive season.

"It was only one crate per customer but people were buying a crate and coming back later on that day and buying another one," Jonathan explained.

“The word must have spread around the village that Shloer was on offer and the customers were buying it in their droves.

"We sold mostly grape and red grape bottles but we did have other options available."

Jonathan told the Guardian the Shloer offer was one of Eurospar's '12 Deals of Christmas'.

"Everyone was keen to stock up for Christmas in Cullybackey.

"Many people wouldn't drink alcohol so Shloer is the alternative to a glass of wine I suppose.

"I don't think there will be anyone running out of Shloer on Christmas Day this year in Cullybackey."

Statistics

With over 12,000 bottles sold in one week it means on average there was 1,714 bottles sold per day.

The population of Cullybackey is just over 2,500 so each person will be guzzling 4.8 bottles each with their turkey and ham!

If, for some unexplained reason, you didn’t make it in on time for the offer the Spar still have plenty of Shloer in stock - now at the regular price of £2.20.

I suppose it’s wise thinking by the customers of the Spar because if you forget the Shloer its a Christmas sin!

Patrick Doody, Sales & Marketing Director at Henderson Wholesale commented: “12 Deals of Christmas has become one of our most popular annual promotions to boost footfall and show the variety of products available for Christmas in our stores.

“The sales and success for retailers has been experienced across our network of over 400 SPAR and EUROSPAR stores and supermarkets, with many selling out of the weekly deal products and achieving heightened footfall across the entire promotion period.”
