SILLY shirts helped raise a serious amount of cash in aid of Cancer Research UK.

The Silly Shirts fundraising event was held last week at Ballymena Services Club where people turned out in a wacky assortment of shirts to raise £1,669.51 as part of the Stand up to Cancer initiative.

Alwynne McLaughlin, Manager at the local Cancer Research shop said she was delighted with the success of the event. She sales had been generated from people purchasing shirts from the store as well as donations. She thanked all those who provided raffle prizes - TM Flooring, McAtamney’s Greenvale Street, Caffe Tosca and Sorrento, Fred Funk, Kennedy Jewellers, Laurence from Mars Confectionary and Gordons Health and Beauty.

She also thanked Noel Cairns of the Services Club for his very generous donation.

Alwynne said she normally organised 70s and 80s disco fundraising events and this was something a little different.
