Mid and East Antrim is set for a starring role in hit Channel 4 show Derry Girls!
Mid and East Antrim is set to be showcased to an audience of millions as the backdrop to hit Channel 4 sitcom Derry Girls.
The stars of the show are currently filming for their next season, and eagle-eyed local fans have spotted the actors on location in Ballymena in recent days.
Derry Girls, which follows the exploits of a 16-year-old Erin Quinn, her family and friends in the early 90s, was a runaway hit when it aired at the start of the year.
The show’s entourage are using Ballymena Showgrounds as a base for filming, taking place at a hotel in the town centre, with other scenes to be shot throughout the area over the coming days.
Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Lindsay Millar, said: “We are delighted to be working with Channel 4 to assist with the filming of this production in our borough.
“Mid and East Antrim has very strong links to the world’s most popular television series of all time, Game of Thrones, and it is fantastic that film and television crews are increasingly using our borough’s stunning scenery and remarkable built heritage.
“Such coverage showcases our incredible offerings to audiences throughout Northern Ireland, the UK and the world.
“One of our key priorities in Mid and East Antrim is to grow our incredible tourism potential and our borough featuring in hit television shows and movies is great for the area and our economy.”
