MID and East Antrim Borough Council has partnered with the Department for the Economy and Enterprise Northern Ireland for a new enterprise programme aimed at boosting jobs and business in the borough.

The Exploring Enterprise 4 Programme, delivered under the European Social fund (ESF) Programme 2014-2020, will be managed by Enterprise Northern Ireland and rolled out locally by LEDCOM and Carrickfergus Enterprise.

The Exploring Enterprise Programme is a free special support initiative aimed at helping unemployed or economically inactive individuals improve their employment prospects as well as exploring potential self-employment opportunities.

The course provides one-to-one tailored business mentoring support, with the opportunity to work towards achieving an accredited QCF Level 1 Qualification in Understanding Business Enterprise.

Participants will get the opportunity to visit local businesses and work as part of a team to develop business skills and knowledge.

Through Amplify, the integrated economic strategy for the borough, Council is committed to growing the economy whilst focusing on developing and supporting entrepreneurial activity across Mid and East Antrim.

Cllr Lindsay Millar, Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, said: “Our Council is focused on supporting the business growth journey to enable businesses to create jobs and wealth throughout the borough.

“Earlier this year Council launched an exciting new strategy to boost the economy across the borough, called ‘Amplify’.

“Amplify aims to support the development of Mid and East Antrim right through until 2030.

“Growing the economy is Council’s top priority in Mid and East Antrim and Amplify allows us to support a number of businesses from the start-up to growth phases.

“The support and opportunities available from the new business programmes offered through ‘Amplify’ help to create a vibrant business culture within our borough.

“We are blessed with an abundance of talent throughout our borough and it is crucial we work together to harness those skills and potential by providing practical advice and guidance for start-ups and established businesses.”

Michael McQuillan, Chief Executive of Enterprise Northern Ireland, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for participants who are experiencing challenges or facing barriers to entering or returning to the labour market, to gain an understanding of enterprise and become employment or self-employment ready.

“While being provided with the opportunity to explore self-employment as an option, the participant can work towards a recognised qualification in Understanding Business. This endorsement professionalises their engagement in the programme and is something they will always have to evidence their capability, as they build a career in enterprise.”

This project is part-funded through the Northern Ireland European Social Fund Programme 2014 – 2020, the Department for the Economy, and Mid and East Antrim Borough Council.
