BRAIDSIDE Integrated Primary School pupil, Ava Scott, has had a hair raising 16 inches of her long locks cut off in aid of The Little Princess Trust.
The 10 year old had never had a hair cut before this, only quick trims, which makes this particular haircut all the more drastic!
On Wednesday, June 27, Ava braced herself for the big chop at Salon 54.
Kind hearted Ava was inspired to donate her hair to the charity after learning about the compassionate way the Trust helps little girls who have lost their hair due to cancer.
Ava said: “ I am getting my hair cut to raise money for Little Princess Trust.
“Lots of kids get sick and can lose their hair because of the medicine they have to take.
“Illnesses like cancer can make kids very sad.
“Making a wig will give them back some joy and I want to help to do that.
“Thank you for supporting me. This is a real sacrifice for me to cut my long hair, but I want to help others. I have been growing my hair since I was a baby, but it will grow again!
“Thank you for all your donations, no matter how big or how small I want to thank you for your help.”
Ava’s hair will help make wigs for them and she is delighted at the opportunity to help young girls, some the same age as herself, who are fighting this cruel disease.
Ava was accompanied by proud mum Jessica who said:
“All donations no matter how big or small will be gratefully received on Ava's justgiving page by searching ava-scott10”
Little Princess Trust provides real hair wigs, free of charge to children and young adults that have lost their own hair through cancer treatment and other illnesses.
They have given away over 6,000 free wigs.
As well as donating her hair, Ava has managed to raise more than £200 for the charity.
She has been praised for her efforts with friends and family commenting on her justgiving page: “We know you love having long hair, but are willing to donate it so someone else can have beautiful hair too.
“I think you will rock short hair!”
