FORMER Hazelbank Primary School teacher Claire Robinson, who now teaches in Zambia, was recently back at her old school - and was presented with £500 for Serving In Mission (SIM).

The money was raised by the pupils through their ‘5 P Friday’ - a weekly collection of loose coins.

Claire said she was delighted with the gift which will be used at her new school, Mukinge Hill Academy.

“I am very grateful to Hazelbank Primary for this very kind gesture,” said Claire. “The money will be put to very good use, helping with the cost of putting four pupils through a year’s scholarship schooling.”

Claire, who works for SIM, taught at Hazelbank Primary for 10 years.

But after a visit to Mukinge Hill Academy she was hooked and ended up moving to Zambia.

She is now head teacher at Mukinge Hill Academy and works with seven other staff and five classroom assistants.

Accompaning her on the recent visit to Hazelbank Primary was her close friend, Dr. Buumba Bubala.

“Buumba is a Doctor at the Mukinge Hospital, which is 10 minutes from our school,” outlined Claire.

At Hazelbank Assembly Claire spoke with the pupils, telling them of the work of SIM.

Afterwards the school presented Claire with the £500 cheque.

Claire has many fond memories of her time at Hazelbank Primary - but she knew there was work to be done in Zambia and decided three years ago it was time to move there.

She said she loves coming back home - and calling at Hazelbank Primary.

“It’s always lovely to be back and to catch up with family and friends. The financial support I receive from the school is very much appreciated,” said Claire.

And Principal at Hazelbank Primary, Mrs. Beverly Gray, said that the school is honoured to have Claire calling, and keeping them updated with the work she is doing in Zambia.

“It is always a pleasure to have a visit from Claire. She is very much part of the team and we at the school are only too pleased to give her, and Serving In Mission, our support,” and Mrs. Gray.
