Galgorm Trophies Division Three
League Cup Final
Cullybackey Blues ....................3
TEN man Cullybackey Blues claimed the first silverware of the season with this comfortable victory over Cushendall thanks mainly to a brace from Man of the Match Shane Douglas.
Blues went on the offensive from the first whistle with Gary Glass and Shane Douglas causing the Cushendall defence all sorts of problems.
The first goal came on 20 minutes when David Stirling clipped a free kick over the top for Shane Douglas to race on to and slot home the opener.
Blues were dealt a major blow soon after this goal when they had a man ordered off for his second yellow card.
This spurred on Cushendall, but Blues dug in and defended well with David Ramsay playing well to ensure his side went in at the break in front.
Despite having 10 men Blues came out in the second half and controlled the game and doubled their lead on the hour mark.
Gary Glass played in Shane Douglas and he made no mistake firing home his second goal of the game.
This second goal killed off any fight back from Cushendall as the Cullybackey men got the ball down and played some nice football in the closing stages.
And they put the icing on the cake with a third goal.
Gary Glass broke down the right, cut inside and played a one two with Shane Douglas before curling the ball past Jonny Fyfe in the Cushendall goal to clinch the cup win for Blues.
After the final whistle BSML Chairman David King, on behalf of sponsors Galgorm Trophies, handed the cup over to the winning Cullybackey Blues Captain Rodney Holmes.
