Key men miss tie

Thursday, 21 September 2017

DAVID Jeffrey is without several key men for tonight's (Tuesday) Toals County Antrim Shield first round match with Harland and Wolff Welders at the Showgrounds (7.45pm).
The injured list includes Kevin Braniff, Conor McCloskey and Emmet Friars.
Braniff, top class the previous week, limped off with a hamstring pull against Glentoran at the weekend.
McCloskey did likewise, a groin strain bringing to an end his time on the team.
And Friars, with two goals in his last two outings, did not even make the kick-off!
He was named in the starting line-up, but picked up an injury in warm-up.
United manager Jeffrey is not one to blame injuries for poor results.
“Injuries are part and parcel of the game and we are certainly not having the best run of injuries," he told Guardian Sport. "I have never made injuries an excuse or a reason."
Jeffrey pointed out that "injuries give others opportunities."
“ Opportunities will fall to other members of the squad," pointed out the manager.
The Ballymena boss does not expect an easy tie with Welders tonight.
“ It is going to be tough. We played them in pre-season. And they beat us," recalled Jeffrey.
“It is not going to be easy in any way, shape or form."
