GLENN 'The Beast' Irvine is the newly crowned British champion after dethroning the title holder in Doncaster on Friday night!
The Waveney Road man, competing in the Caged Steel Fighting Championships (CSFC), took on champion Marcin Prostkov - and two minutes and six seconds into the opening round it was over - a win by submission.
This is the EIGHTH British belt won by a fighter from Ballymena's Institute of Mixed Martial Arts club in Linenhall Street so far this year!
Middleweight Irvin, an employee at Wrightbus, was in top gear from the start.
Early on 26-year-old Irvine rocked his opponent pretty badly with a super solid, stiff jab, then again with a nice elbow. In his opponents reaction he panic shot to try and take Irvine down to the floor.
Irvine countered this perfectly and rocked him again with a good elbow in the clinch/tie-up position, causing his panicking opponent now to back off.
Irvine kept the pressure on and landed some more heavy, heavy shots, forcing Prostkov again to try and get it to the mat.
This time Irvine got his arm under his chin deep, and figure foured it off putting on a nice inverted guillotine forcing his man to tap.
He fought on bravely and failed to tap out in time causing him to go partially unconscious in an amazingly fast time of 2 min 06 sec in the very first round.
