A NEW soccer competition - for the Ulster Scots Over 35 Cup - will raise funds for the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust!
Two teams, Ballymena Town FC and Carlisle FC, will battle it out for the silverware is what is hoped will become an annual fixture.
Ballymena and Carlisle clash on Saturday, May 13, at the Showgrounds.
The return fixture will be in Scotland.
Colin O'Neill, the ex-Northern Ireland international, Motherwell and Ballymena United player, will attend the game in Ballymena.
O'Neill will make a 10 minute appearance on the pitch.
Tournament organiser Gavin Mark said proceeds from the gate will go to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust, which helped the Rodgers family from Ballymena, whose son Darren died following an accident during last year's Euros in France.
“Hopefully we will get a good turnout for the match and raise a few pounds for the Trust," said Gavin.
Having worked in Scotland Gavin got friendly with a Scot who told him about the Over-35 Leagues in Scotland.
They chatted about the possibility of getting two Over-35 teams formed for an annual fixture in Ballymena and one in Scotland.
“It spiralled from there," Gavin told Guardian Sport. "With the help of Paul Muir I got a team together, which includes quite a few players with Premier and Championship experience."
The Ballymena Town FC line-up includes John McDowell, Darren Parker, Nigel Boyd, Paul Muir, Aidan O'Kane, Stephen Tully and Darren Crawford.
* The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust was set up by the Bell family after a personal tragedy.
Colin Bell's 26-year-old son, Kevin, was killed in a suspected hit-and-run in New York in June 2013.
Since then, the charity has helped hundreds of families whose loved ones have died away from home.
