Pride of place goes to Harryville CC

Thursday, 16 February 2017

RESULTS from last week's League Cup and League Plate matches provided confirmation of the semi-final line up's in both competitions.
In the League Cup, pride of place goes to Division Two side Harryville CC who overcame Division One opponents Portglenone CC to become the only team from outside the top division to progress to the last four.
Harryville's first leg performance gave them hope of causing an upset as they trailed by just three shots on the +10 handicap.
The return leg though seemed to be heading towards a Portglenone victory with G Merron and K O'Kane both winning their games 11 - 7 for the Bannsiders.
The hosts however produced a stirring second half performance with G Worthington's rink of E McGuckin, R Peacock and N Worthington storming to a 21 - 5 triumph over J McErlean.
League Vice Chairman Joe Patterson led his charges to a 14 - 8 win over T McCart, in the process confirming the shock result of this seasons League Cup thus far. All credit to Harryville who won the tie 75 - 74 without the +10 handicap. Their reward is a semi final tie against League Cup specialists Michelin.
The Woodside Road outfit had already put themselves in a strong position from their 1st leg tie against BPFA B. The outcome of the second leg produced a similar result as the 'Mich' eased their way into the last four.
BPFA A and Old Bleach qualified from the top half of the draw, winning against Round Tower and 1st Ballymena respectively.
