ROGER Casement's GAC and Geraldine's Camogie in Portglenone are celebrating the completion of their 750,000 second pitch project at the club.
On Friday afternoon Mid and East Antrim Mayor, Councillor Audrey Wales, attended a reception at the venue, along with the Club Committee and the Design Team, to officially mark the occasion.
For the GAC/Camogie Club it is another chapter in the development of Gaelic games in the area.
Back in 2015 the Club embarked on its most ambitious Phase, the development of a second playing pitch in the adjoining field of seven acres.
The now completed Development comprises of -
* a full-size GAA Pitch (140m x 85m playing area)
* floodlighting
* spectator and ball-stop fencing
* avehicular access and parking facilities
* and a designated pedestrian access with amenity lighting providing access from the Club's existing site.
President James McAtamney, who has been associated with this Club for over 70 years, said the latest chapter in the development fills him with great pride.
“ I was Secretary in 1966 at the opening of the original pitch. I now look forward to the opening of this magnificent Development," he told Guardian Sport.
Chairman Noel Kelly said it has been a fantastic project from start to finish.
“ Council and Club have worked very well together for our young people. It would not have been possible without a mammoth voluntary effort on behalf of our members and players. Let's hope success on the pitch will follow," said Noel.
Club secretary, Martin Kearney, proudly told Guardian Sport - " Members have delivered this Project to completion with all bills paid."
The seven acre site was purchased in 2011 and is adjacent to the Club's existing facilities at O'Cathain Park.
