BALLYMENA Runners got the chance to rub shoulders with some of the top Cross Country Runners from all around the world when the competed at the International Cross Country Meeting in Antrim last Saturday.
The CAFRE Greenmount Campus was the venue for the Races when the IAAF event came to Antrim for the annual International Cross Country event. The blue ribbon event was hosted by Athletics NI and also included the British Athletics XC Challenge and was part of the ongoing Athletics NI XC League.
After all the age group races in the morning it was the turn of the senior runners with the ladies event first over a 5.6 km course. Ballymena runners had four of their ladies in action with a filed of over 130 runners on show.
Kerry Bamber led the Ballymena contingent home in 34th overall, behind the International ladies in 24 mins 16, 64 secs. Kerry was followed by, Shelley, Tomlins, 00:29:03, 95, Pamela, Kane, 00:31:48, 128, Rosemary, Morrow, 00:40:50.
International ladies winners were - 1st Caroline Kipkirui (Kenya) - 18:53, 2nd Gotytom Gebreslase (Ethiopia) - 19:35, 3rd Birtukan Adamu (Ethiopia) - 19:38.
Next up was the longer men's race over an 8.2 km course. The Ballymena club had 14 men competing amongst an entry of just over 200 male runners

The International winners were 1st Conseslus Kipruto (Kenya) - 24:36, 2nd Abraham Cheroben, (Bahrain) - 24:37, 3rd Andy Vernon (England) - 24:56
