Giro De Bucknaw III raises 4,500 for charities

Thursday, 5 January 2017

THE 'Giro De Bucknaw III' sponsored cycle event last year raised 4,500 - with the following benefiting -
500 went to the Ballymena Bears special needs tag rugby team, 2,100 to the Bridgewater Suite Haematology Unit at the City Hospital, 500 to the Cancer Fund For Children, 1,100 to The Brook Dementia Care Fold in Coleraine and a joint donation of 300 (100 from the Giro) with Carnlough Lodge 216 to the local Integrated Primary School for new books.
This was the third such fund raising event; first one was in June 2014.
The then Worshipful Master Uel McCullough and Worshipful Master Clifford Gay of Bucknaw Lodge 194 and Broughshane Lodge 246 purchased a defibrillator for the villages of Broughshane and Glenarm (well respected neighbouring lodge).
The reason for raising funds for the defibrillator's was due to a member of Broughshane Lodge 246's father taking a heart attack in the Thatch Bar and thankfully survived the ordeal.
The then two Worshipful masters decided to join ranks and along with the actual Giro De Italia taking place that year the aptly named 'Giro De Bucknaw' was formed.
