WORLD and British titles were won by Ballymena's Institute of Mixed Martial Arts (IMMA) fighters at the weekend!
On Friday night in front of up to 10,000 people in the 3 Arena in Dublin Rhys McKee won the Lonsdale BAMMA British Lightweight title.
His gym colleague Andy Young fought to victory in the WWFC World Flyweight showdown in Kiev, Ukraine.
Twenty-one-year-old McKee, from Millfield in the town, was the co-main event at the first ever BAMMA/Bellator joint promotion.
The storeman at Wrightbus at Galglorm took just 1 min 45 seconds in the very first round to demolish/k.o his undefeated top U.K. prospect!
This was supposed to be the final test of the year for Rhys against a tough a very tough opponent - but once he found his range there was only going to be one winner.
“This was such a huge and very important fight for Rhys," said local club head coach, Rodney Moore.
“His father passed away eight weeks ago, but instead of sitting around and letting it get to him he used it as fuel to spur him in and keep focused on his goal of winning that British title for him and his dad."
The sky is the limit for Rhys; he is so focused and dedicated on where he wants to be in this sport and takes it all in his stride.
There is now a couple of bigger promotions very interested in him now!
Meanwhile, Andy 'Taz' Young won the WWFC World Flyweight title in Kiev!
He destroyed Alexander Barabash via a brutal TKO at 2 minutes 36 seconds in the second round to add to his very impressive belt collection this year.
