FOUR Ballymena and Antrim athletes were represented in the recent Irish Club Cross Country Championships Uneven age groups at the superb surroundings of Dundalk Institute of Technology.
Conditions were perfect for racing with mild weather and sound underfoot turf.
Debutant Eimear Johnston in the U13 girl's 2500m race ran a good race to finish 85th out of a field of 137 top young athletes from across Ireland.
This experience of competing at a high level will be invaluable for Eimear as she approaches the school cross country season.
Katie Agnew followed in the girls U15 3500m race and ran an outstanding race to place 7th in Ireland and has been rewarded with selection for Northern Ireland & Ulster in the Celtic cross country team to participate in Wales on January 21, 2017.
Katie was 2nd Antrim and Ulster Athlete home and contributed to Antrim team winning silver medals and the Ulster team winning bronze medals.
The U17 girls 4000m race saw Rachel Brown and Emma Hutchinson take part among 106 other talented and enthusiastic competitors.
This race saw the girl's complete 2 laps of the arduous course with Emma finishing a respectable 34th. Rachel ran an excellent race which after a start which saw her uncharacteristically boxed in as the course narrowed quickly, she worked well both mentally and in a free flowing style of running to claw back several places and finish with a superb last 300m and 14th overall.
Rachel was the 2nd Ulster finisher and contributed to the Ulster team winning bronze medals.
Coach Pauline Thom was delighted with the performances from the four girls and is looking forward to the season ahead.
