Battling Casementís set up Semi-Final shoot out against Aghagallon

Thursday, 10 November 2016

CASEMENT'S Portglenone are on a mission. Having won the Under 21 B football championship last season they aim to go one better this time around with success at A level.
This eagerly awaited quarter final tie was played out at O'Cahan Park Portglenone on Saturday afternoon between two parishes who share an ambition to be amongst the best in the county in the next few years, and, judging by this display both clubs have got plenty to look forward to.
The highly impressive Conall Delargy opened the scoring, with two great points from play within the first three minutes, as Portglenone starting the stronger.
The visitors then began to settle and in the blink of an eye went ahead when hugely talented Liam Quinn struck the ball confidently past Ryan O Neill for their opening score.
Overall, it was high quality stuff with the middle third of the pitch where the main battles were taking place.
The style of play from each team was contrasting. Creggan looked to run the ball through the middle with quick inter passing movements, and with Conor Small at the centre of everything, opening up the Casements defence on numerous occasions.
Tiernan McAteer found himself in the right position and finished perfectly to score Kickhams second goal, with just12 minutes gone, and they looked on fire.
Portglenone preferred a longer deliverer and some superb foot passes from Corey Mc Laughlin, Ronan Kelly and Fergal O Kane in particular often found the fast moving Casement's forwards in space.
Many of these excellent movements finished with a score from play or a free and one stand out effort from Conall Delargy, went off the woodwork and over the bar at the end of a superb 40 yard solo.
