New Galgorm Castle Golf Club general manager Gary Henry.
Top names in golf, including the likes of Darren Clarke, Rory McElroy, Graeme McDowell and Padraig Harrington, will play at Galgorm Castle Golf Club in the Summer of 2009, writes Shaun O'Neill.
They will be part of the Oceanico Group sponsored 'George Best Celebrity Invitation' event.
Chairman of the organising committee is Gary Henry, who only last week took up the post of General Manager of Galgorm Castle Golf Club.
“The 2009 George Best Celebrity Invitation will be bigger and better than the one that was held this Summer," Gary told 'Guardian Sport'.
“There will be 'A' list players and celebrities involved in what will be a two-day pro tournament."
Gary outlined that the format will be one professional golfer partnering a celebrity, plus two amateur guests.
“The golfing tournament will be followed by a black-tie dinner, with afters of
world class entertainment," said Gary.
Plans for the 2009 spectacular are at an advanced stage.
The 2008 event at G0algorm Castle Golf Club attracted up to 5,000 people.
The money raised will be used within the 'George Best Celebrity Foundation' which was set up to provide charitable funds for research into liver disease and alcoholism as well as supporting the promotion of a healthy lifestyle among young people through participation in soccer.
The Foundation was established to promote general charitable purposes for the benefit of the public in Northern Ireland and abroad and for the benefit of the Foundation for Liver Research without distinction of ethnic identity, age, gender, sexual orientation, nationality political or religious opinion.
Meanwhile, new Galgorm Castle Golf Club general manager Gary Henry is settling in nicely in his new surroundings.
The former 1-handicapper (he now plays off 4) was former general manager at Massereene Golf Club.
He has played at Senior Club level with various clubs he was involved with. Now at Galgorm Club he plans to make everything run smoothly for the members and visitors alike.
Next year Galgorm Castle Golf Club will host Power Play Championships!
“It is a shortened version of golf," he outlined.
“We will be the only course in Northern Ireland to hold a license which enables us to host Power Play events," said Gary.
The General Manager is also keen to promote mixed golf events, and encourage much more family activity within the club.
“At Galgorm Castle Golf Club I am keen to create much more of a clubhouse atmosphere for members and visitors alike," he said.
The golf club also offers excellent driving range facilities and has trained professional golfers on hand to coach and offer advice.
The club is keen to promote new members in all categories (men, woman and juniors).
There is a new five-day membership deal on offer at a greatly reduced fee, along with various other promotions. Just ask for details at the clubhouse.
There is also a custom fitting centre at the driving range - where your every golfing club need is met.
At present golfers will see the drainage men in full swing!
“A major draining project is currently well underway," explained Gary.
“Several thousands tons of sand are being put over the course and along with the drainage work we should have the course in first class condition for 2009."
