Ballymena Mayor, Cllr. Hubert Nicholl, looks on as Council Sports Awards special guest, World Junior paralympic 200m sprint champion Sally Brown, signs the visitors book in the Mayor’s Parlour at the Braid Arts Centre.
World Junior paralympic 200 metres champion Sally Brown was special guest at Ballymena Council's Sports Awards last Thursday night.
The 16-year-old, from Ballykelly, chatted with compere, Ballymena's BBC sports presenter Jackie Fullerton, on stage in front of a packed Braid Arts Centre.
The ace young athlete has already qualified to compete in the London 2012 Paralymic Games.
Back in January last year Sally won bronze in her senior debut in the 200 metres at the IPC World event in New Zealand.
A couple of months later she was off to Dubai where she won gold in the 200 metres and silver in the 100.
Sally, who trains with Springwell Running Club in Coleraine, admits to being nervous and excited about the prospect of competing in the London Paralympics.
The Lower Sixth pupil spoke of her very busy training routine for the week.
She revealed that her favourite event is the 200 metres - and hinted she may also turn her attention to the 400 metres.
Sally, who spent some time in the VIP area at The Braid prior to the Awards evening getting underway, talking with some of the other guests and officials, did not want to predict the outcome of her Paralympic showing - but naturally did say a medal would make all her efforts very worthwhile.
Ballymena Mayor, Councillor Hubert Nicholl, presented Sally with a Seven Towers plaque and a beautiful bouquet of flowers.
Meanwhile, at the Awards evening there were 31 nominees over the 10 different categories from 15 different sports all hoping for honours.
