Trusty Steede aiming to complete Long Run Down
Thursday, 9 October 2008
Ballymena Runner Jonny Steede tackles the Long Run Down for charity later this month.
Charly Boorman and Ewan McGregor have got nothing on local amateur runner Jonny Steede, who sets off later this month on the gruelling 'Long Run Down'.
Jonny is making the mammoth effort over an estimated 175 miles in aid of Northern Ireland Children's Hospice, The Samaritans and The Sunshine Home (Dublin).
He leaves the NI Children's Hospice on Wednesday 22 October on a charity run organised by a team of amateur runners - and non runners - to raise much needed funds for the three charities.
However, it is a run with a difference!
Jonny, who is a member of Ballymena Runners Club, will take on the challenge of adding extra miles to his journey by visiting Lisburn, Lurgan, Portadown, Banbridge, Newry and Drogheda, to collect donations.
He then finishes off by running the Dublin marathon on 27 October!
As far as records show, never before has anyone attempted a gruelling race from Newtownabbey to Dublin in this way.
Needless to say, Jonny has been training in preparation for the event.
Jonny commented: "I have been training vigorously in order to prepare myself for the tough run I have ahead.
“I have been constantly racing nearly every week and pumping in big miles in training, including running for the Northern Ireland team twice this year."
The run will take place from 22 October, launching at 10am at Northern Ireland Children's Hospice, and finishing on 27 October 2008 with the Dublin marathon.
If you would like to make a donation to the event, you can do so online at www.justgiving.com/thelongrundown or by visiting the website www.thelongrundown.org.
