Highly successful adult coaching course

Thursday, 11 September 2008

Ballymena Lawn Tennis Club offers coaching for all ages in the People's Park, Ballymena and is a great chance to hone skills, improve fitness and make friends.
Last Thursday saw the end of a three week adult coaching course held by Fergus Barklie, Club Chairman.
Five beginners and four improvers completed seven hours of coaching with impressive results.
The final lesson finished with a short playing session with regular members of the club.
Each course consists of four evening sessions addressing the basic skills of tennis; How to hold a racket, forehand and backhand strokes progressing to volleying, serving and finally smashing the ball.
Fergus has based the courses on modern international techniques which makes for a practical introduction to tennis coaching and each player enjoys the benefits of personalised attention.
Fergus is a past Windsor Division One player and County Londonderry Inter Counties Team Captain as well as having represented Ulster on the Senior Veterans Ulster Team in the Interprovincial Championships. "It is great to watch how players of all ages improve with even a little coaching and how simple changes to their techniques can improve their standard of play amazingly." Fergus added that for him the greatest satisfaction he has had over the years was seeing many of the players joining the Ballymena Tennis Club and in many instances representing the club in matches throughout the Province.
The next Beginner's Course starts on Tuesday 16th September - places are restricted and anyone wishing to take part should book now.
The next Improver's Course has three available places and is due to start on 23rd September.
Both courses consist of four evening sessions commencing at 7 pm.
Players are invited to end the session with a game with the regular club players if time permits.
