Ballymena United striker Neil Teggart : misses tonight’s Premier League match with Newry City through injury.
Ballymena United striker Neil Teggart is out of Tuesday's JJB Sports Irish Premier League match away to Newry City (7.45pm), writes Shaun O'Neill.
The 23-year-old limped out of the 5-1 beating by Cliftonville at the Showgrounds on Saturday with a calf injury.
“There is no way I will be ready for the Newry game - but hopefully I can get back for the visit of Dungannon Swifts on Saturday," Teggert told Guardian Sport.
It was Teggart who was on target for United against the Reds at the weekend, glancing in a header past 'keeper John Connolly after just two minutes.
The sharp-shooter was bitterly disappointed after the game about the couple of clear cut chances he missed which would have put United in the driving seat. Actually the entire Ballymena squad was most solemn as they trudged out of the changing rooms at the weekend.
They knew they had let themselves and new manager Roy Walker down badly.
Meanwhile, boss Walker hopes the players redeem themselves tonight in Newry.
Obviously watching his defence crumble time after time against Cliftonville will have been a worrying factor for Walker and co.
But Walker, now aware of the situation, intends dealing with it.
“It's a welcome back to management, and the real job now begins," said Walker after reflecting on the disappointing start to the League campaign.
The boss admitted the showing had shown up quite a few deficiencies in some individuals.
But he made it clear he has no intention of pressing the panic button.
After the defeat Walker talked with the team in the changing rooms and asked each player to take a good look at themselves.
“We must respond positively," Walker told Guardian Sport. And just days after the rattling by the Reds they have the chance to do so in Newry.
Gavin Melaugh, injured against Ballyclare Comrades in the 3-0 County Antrim Shield success at the Showgrounds last Tuesday night, remains out injured.
Saturday's Premier League match against Dungannon Swifts is being sponsored by Ballymena United Development Committee.
Seven Towers Supporters Club transport leaves Henry Street car-park on Tuesday at 6.15pm for the trip to Newry.
The JJB Sports Premiership fixture against Institute at Riverside Stadium, Drumahoe, on Saturday, September 6, kicks off at 2pm.
United have finally completed the signing of former Northern Ireland international, Peter Kennedy, on a one-year deal at Showgrounds.
Kennedy, 34, spent the last two seasons with Portadown after returning home after spending nearly a decade playing professional football in England, which included a spell in the English Premier League and 20 caps for his country.
He began his career with Glenavon in the mid-nineties and also had a short but successful spell at Portadown before getting his chance to move across the water in 1996 when he joined Notts County for £100,000.
