Glenravel win championship replay
Thursday, 22 July 2010
GLENRAVEL won their Junior Hurling championship quarter final replay when they took out St Endas, 0-17 to 2-9. In the space of less than a week the Glensmen put paid to the hopes of the Glengormley club, beating them in three separate competitions, Division 3 football and under 16 hurling as well as this well earned Junior championship success.
An early St Endas goal suggested that the Glengormley men were up for this one and when they went on to lead, 1-6 to 0-7, at the break there was no reason to believe that they weren't.
Neil McCann got Glenravel off to an early lead with an opening minute point and he went on to hit a total of four before the break. Midfielder Paddy O'Neill and Damien O'Hagan also had their say.
The Con Magees aide, anxious to get a crack at Cloughmills in the semi final of the competition, came strong in the second half and would have had a much more comfortable victory but for an injury time St Endas goal.
McCann, from a free, led the second half charge and with McNeill, Kieran McKeown and two more McCann points by the twelfth minute they held a slender one point lead, 0-12 to 1-8.
As the game progressed they got stronger and soon they had opened up a comfortable gap. Again McCann was at the forefront of the charge with O'Hagan , McCann again, Steven Atcheson and substitute Kevin Hegarty giving them a comfortable five point lead as the game went into injury time.
St Endas late goal had absolutely no bearing on the game only to make their performance look that little bit more threatening.
Sunday evenings semi final saw Cloughmills prove much too strong and Glenravel bowed out of this seasons championship on a 3-10 to 0-12 scoreline.
