Christine off to Canada thumbnailChristine McMahon: set for World Junior championships in Canada. Pix - Athletics NI.

BALLYMENA and Antrim Athletics Club member Christine McMahon looks to have booked her place on the Irish team for next month's World Junior championships in Canada, writes Shaun O'Neill.
The 17-year-old recently decimated the opposition to take the AAAs U20 400m title in 59.66 seconds.
This virtually guarantees her a place in the World Junior showdown in Moncton - July 19-25.
Meanwhile, B&A athlete Jonnna Mills could be on her way to the Commonwealth Games in India!
She was part of the Northern Ireland 4 x 400 relay team which came within 0.28 seconds of breaking the NI record set in 1996.
Mills, Katie Kirk, Christine McMahon, and Jo Patterson recorded a time of 3 minutes 40.40 seconds at the Antrim Forum last week.
This is the second fastest ever and just outside the record of 3.40.12.
More importantly their time is 2.5 seconds faster than the Commonwealth Games guideline for selection to the Delhi Games in October.
This performance has therefore significantly enhanced the prospect of a 4x400m squad being added to the Games team on the final deadline date in a month's time.
The general view is that with an average age of only 18 this relay team has its best performances still to come.
Certainly the current form of its members shows they are on a high.
B&A runner Mills has been in blistering form.
She recently won the Irish Schools title in a PB of 55.69 seconds.
