A FORMER teacher from Ballymena has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in  recognition of her services to education and the community in Northern Ireland.
Jackie Neill is one of a number of people to be included in this year's  Queen's birthday honours list.
Jackie taught at Dunclug College for 28 years where she was head of the Modern Languages Department and then became a special education needs co-ordinator and a school counsellor.
“The number of messages I have received from past pupils congratulating me and thanking me for what I have done for them over the years has been lovely.
“It is really humbling to read the messages and it has brought tears to my eyes on a few occasions," she said.
The BEM is awarded for an outstanding achievement or service to the community.
