Work on bandstand removal begins thumbnail

WORK has begun to dismantle the bandstand at Broadway in Ballymena Town Centre.
The move is the next phase of the multi-million pound Public Realm Scheme.
The work which began on Monday is the start of plans to transform the  Broadway area.
The bandstand plan has been one of the more controversial elements of the scheme and was postponed last year after some businesses complained about potential disruption to trade.
The bandstand has been a popular feature of the town centre and some would have preferred to see it retained.
However, new plans have been drawn up for the area and it is expected that the works, including the new canopy structure, will be complete by the end of April.
