Pothole plague causes public backlash thumbnail

THE state of the road network right across the Ballymena area has caused widespread anger amongst motorists.
In the aftermath of the recent 'big freeze', hundreds of potholes have appeared in the town and surrounding villages.
 Some of the most dangerous holes are to be found on poorly lit rural roads, leading some local people to describe them as potential deathtraps.
 And when one local councillor expressed his frustration at the ongoing problem on social media last week, his comments lit a touchpaper which prompted scores of people to vent theirfury.
As the facebook storm grew, the Ballymena Guardian investigated the scale of the problem and found that the issue is widespread and, by any standards, there is a genuine danger to motorists and other road users.
