Grand bandstand plan

Thursday, 30 November 2017

WORK on a key part of the 4m Public Realm scheme to redevelop the bandstand area in Ballymena town centre will be completed by next April, the Guardian can reveal this week.
Workmen are expected to move on to the site to dismantle the current structure early in the new year.
The bandstand plan has been one of the more controversial elements of the Public Realm scheme and was postponed after some businesses complained about potential disruption to trade.
Some traders would have preferred the current bandstand to have been retained. However that will not happen.
Last week a Mid and East Antrim Council spokesperson told the Guardian: "It is anticipated the Broadway works will commence early January 2018 and complete in full, including the canopy structure, by the end of April 2018."
The Broadway and bandstand phase of work to transform the town centre was postponed last year.
