Proving that laughter really is the best medicine!

Thursday, 9 November 2017

BACK in 1985 a group of medical staff from The Braid Valley Hospital, pulled together to entertain their patients using drama, with the ethos that "laughter is the alternative medicine!"
Their ethos still echoes true today as the Alternative Medicine Theatre company prepares to entertain the community once again with their fabulous pre-Christmas production of Beauty and the Beast.
The organisation has evolved greatly since those early days.
The first pantomime was performed in the old "Recreation Hall" at the rear of the Braid Valley Hospital site.
The group then moved to the old Town Hall on Bridge Street and now, in more recent years, enjoys the style, size and professional surroundings of The Braid Arts Centre!
After over 30 years on stage, the members of The Alternative Medicine Theatre still continue to entertain families from Ballymena during the festive period.
They have become a household name in many instances and this year are proud to announce that they are Ballymena's only traditional pantomime.
On stage this year they are proud to have not one, but three original founding members including, Heather McComish, Idris Morrow and Patricia McGaughey.
The commitment of these three volunteers demonstrates the passion that is felt for this home grown voluntary organisation.
