Paisley to launch new book on World War 1 sacrifices by MPs

Thursday, 26 October 2017

NORTH Antrim DUP MP, Ian Paisley, has written the foreword and introduction to a prestigious book written by Neil Thornton entitled 'Led By Lions.'
It recounts the history of the MPs and sons of MPs who fell during the Great War 1914-1918 and coincides with the 100th anniversary of the war.
The book is to be launched in Parliament in December in the speakers state rooms by Mr Paisley, the Speaker and the author.
Mr Paisley said: "As a trained historian the war is a fascinating subject. However very little has been written about the sacrifice of those in leadership at the time.
“This book turns the table on the myth that our soldiers were badly led or that the leaders had little connection to their suffering.
“It recounts in detail the sacrifice of MPs and importantly the sons of members who died in their scores on the battlefield.
" I am honoured to have been asked to write the foreword and introduction of this significant contribution to our understanding of the war and its leadership.
“I believe it is fitting that Mr Speaker has agreed to give the book a prestigious launch at Parliament in his state rooms.
“In my detailed introduction I refer to many incidents of great leadership and bravery by MPs and in particular Irishmembers.
“I hope people will get an opportunity to read this important book."
