Magill Hall demolition approved thumbnail

MID and East Antrim Council last weeek approved plans to demolish the Magill Hall at First Presbyterian Church in Broughshane, despite it being a recently listed grade B2 building.
The move was approved at a packed meeting of the council's Planning committee on Thursday and the decision overturned the Planning Department's recommendation.
Councillors agreed by six votes to five to the demolition of the Grade B2 listed building on Broughshane's Main Street.
Members of the public and the church crowded the public gallery to hear passionate arguments, both for and against the demolition of the existing church halls, session house and No. 58 Main Street to make way for new replacement church halls with ancillary accommodation.
Senior planning officer Kyle Patterson opened the debate by explaining the application.
