Thursday, 12 October 2017

JOSHUA Hill defends his Ulster Under-14 Boys Open Championship title next month, writes Shaun O'Neill.
The 15-year-old is a member of Galgorm Castle Golf Club.
The Ulster U-14 Open takes place this year at The Templeton in Templepatrick on Thursday, November 2.
Last year in the Grand Final at Dunmurray Golf Club the top 54 qualifiers competed for the coveted crown.
The two qualifiers took place earlier this year in Foyle and Blackwood.
The Grand final was eventually won by Joshua, going to a sudden death play off with Evan Shipp (Headfort) after both had tied on a score of 71.
Joshua won the play off on the 1st hole.
Meanwhile, just last week in Guardian Sport it was reported that young Hill had been selected for the Golfing Union of Ireland's Under-16 panel for 2018.
The Ballymena Academy pupil has enjoyed a most enjoyable season.
His performances include -
* reaching the semi-final of the Ulster Under-16 Close Matchplay at Castlerock
* runner-up in the Irish Under-14 Open
* runner-up in Ulster Under-14 Close
* and tieing for second in the Inter-Pros.
The Ballywatermoy Road teen will be with the Ireland U-16 squad which meets later this month.
On October 21 and 22 he will be part of the coaching weekend and will also be on a similar mission in December.
