WORLD Champion Stephen 'Speedy' McCready wrapped up his impressive campaign with victory in the Stock Rod Irish Championship.
In the final Ballymena Raceway meeting of the season on Friday evening the undisputed King of the Stock Rod Scene in 2017 headed the 20 car grid for the Irish showdown, with Rasharkin's Niall McFerran alongside on the front row.
There was drama in the opening laps with defending champion Adam Sloan from Kells an early casualty along with Rathfriland's Andrew Morrow.
Up front McCready quickly settled down into the lead spot with McFerran in second, while further back a gaggle of cars fought hard over third.
Jack Kennedy headed this tight knit bunch, with Raymond Harper, Jason Clyde and Aaron Moody queued up behind.
Kennedy defended his position resolutely until the closing laps when the pressure finally told and Harper squeezed ahead.
Up front meanwhile McCready expertly picked his way through the backmarkers to cruise home for a comprehensive first Irish title victory.
McFerran chased hard all the way to the flag and finished as a gallant runner-up, with the top six rounded out by Harper, Clyde, Moody and Kennedy.
Two keenly contested support races followed.
Former British Champion Harper confirmed his recent good form with victory in the first of these, before Aughnacloy's Kyle Beattie wrapped up the second in his Vauxhall Corsa.
