BALLYMENA boy, Ethan McClean, celebrated his ninth birthday last week with wellwishers from all over the world!
And Ethan and his family were special guests and enjoyed a slice of cake on Thursday at a special reception held by the Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, councillor Paul Reid at the Braid Town Hall.
The nine-year-old from Dunfane Park has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), a severe muscle-wasting condition and was diagnosed with the illness when he was 18-months-old.
His parents, Andy and Yvette McClean started campaign to get as many birthday cards as possible sent to Ethan to show him that the postman can also deliver good news.
Ethan, who was featured in the Guardian two weeks ago, received almost 2,000 birthday cards from as far and wide as South Africa and America.
Cllr. Reid said: "I read about Ethan's story and was moved at how inspirational both he and his family are.
“I wanted to help make Ethan's birthday special so was thrilled when his family agreed to come along to have some birthday cake with me and my wife in his home town of Ballymena.
“I gave Ethan a birthday card and was amazed at just how many responses he has got and from all around the world.
“I'm extremely proud to have met Ethan and his family. He's a real wee character and it's been an honour to celebrate with him on his actual birthday as well."
Mum Yvette said: "We're delighted to have had so much support from all over world.
